North sails 12/92 to 3/94

12/92  to  3/94.  It was time to find jobs.  Carl took a tax class with H&R Block and worked at one of their Annapolis offices during the tax season.  Lori got a job at North Sails.  It was great fun learning how it all worked and working some really interesting sails for REALY BIG boats.  Whitbred racers as well as large private sailing vessels past through the loft.  But not all were huge, there were many, many sails made for normal-sized boats and Lori even got to sew a new sail for Bijou.  A  roller furling jib.  Normally this sail would be very expensive, but we got a substantial discount and Lori got to sew it!!

The North Sail loft on the Eastern Shore, across the Chesapeake from Annapolis. It was a half hour drive, sometimes Lori drove and other times she got a ride from one of the other employees. A very busy place with lots of sails in the works.

Mainsail for a Whitbred racing boat--60 footer. The tan color indicated it was made of kevlar--strong and durable, which is what is needed on a Whitbred racing boat. Lori's workstation under the first window from the right.

Lori in her work space under the window. The work area is a pit so sails can be stretched out over the floor. Makes for much easier sewing. A really interesting job and Lori learned a lot!

The best part of the job was being able to make Bijou's roller furling jib. That's it in the center of the floor. Soon it will be rolled up and brought to Lori and her machine.
